It wasn’t all that long ago that Mother Nature stopped by to remind us of her power, grace and beauty. The week had been unseasonably warm and robins could be heard in the early morning sharing their joyful song. The world was waking up from its long slumber – the grass just beginning to turn to the lush green that I love. The tulip leaves had fought their way to the surface; strong, tall
and proud. And then it happened. Just when we thought we were in the clear, the final one-two punch arrived and served up a 2″ mess of ice, slush, snow and weather that we all hoped was past.
According to folklore, robins must see snow on their tail 3 times before spring arrives. Based on that revelation, spring was just around the corner with the next morning’s quick snow-melt giving us hope. I so hoped the tulips would be OK so that I could enjoy their splendor. Their bright and inviting colors boast of a strength and beauty that is cause for celebration. And celebrate they do in Pella, Iowa! 
For 80 years, this town has rolled out its welcome mat, swept the streets and celebrated their Dutch heritage with dancing, costumes, parades, performances, a market and more that will, according to its website, take you back in time to a “European village full of windmills, tulips and excitement” ! Couple that with the sound of wooden shoes and you will be transported to “the Netherlands in the Midwest”. This year’s Tulip Time will be held May 7-9, 2015 and is sure to be just as colorful and exciting as the rest!
I can’t wait! Growing up in Iowa you’d think I’d have gone to the Tulip Festival 
but I haven’t. Don’t ask me why – I’m clueless. In fact, there are a lot of great festivals and celebrations throughout Iowa that could easily fill our time every weekend. What’s wonderful is that I get to go this year! I’ll be laying aside the worries of traveling on my own and navigating the masses; and get to meet and make new friends in a fun and comfortable environment. Rhonda True of MC True Travels kindly extended the invitation to join her and others on a motor coach tour in celebration of the fine event. We’ll be visiting the Historical Village and doing the Windmill Tour and will have plenty of time to do two additional events at minimal cost. These may include:

I’ve always wanted to go to Europe and can only imagine that as I tiptoe through 
the tulips in Pella, it will be as if I’ve been transported to another space and time…all without leaving Iowa! Now how fun is that?!! Exploring another culture, tasting the cuisine, hearing the music – all of the sights, sounds and smells that make for a great adventure! Thanks, Rhona True for inviting me aboard!
